I Am The Blue That I Fear

Photography stop-motion videoDescription
Through photography, I created a stop-motion video frame by frame. It was a slow and intuitive process. As a painter, this project was an experimental shift in medium, one that mirrored the tense transitions I was experiencing and the difficult emotions that surfaced along with them.
Blue is tied to the memories I feel ashamed of, parts of myself that I’d rather hide from: it is vulnerability and timidness. It is a desire to externalize what I can never truly part from. This work was not simply exploratory; it emerged from a need to recognize my pain, to reshape the relationship I have with myself.
The stop-motion loops again and again, reflecting how shame persists even when acknowledged. I wanted to create a space where blue exists outside of my mind, where it can be encountered and interpreted in new ways, by new eyes.
A letter to my shame,
You wrap me around your body and take me to every occasion, because I am your favorite accessory. You own me and I want to kill you, drown you, I want to see you burn, but I cannot escape you. I am the blue that I fear.
