Hi I’m Kyra
My work reflects my experiences and how I navigate them. I’m always eager to grow beyond my comfort zone, whether that means exploring new cities and cultures or experimenting with new mediums and themes in my art.
Kyra Fultz is a multidisciplinary artist based in Detroit, Michigan. She primarily works in oil painting, a medium that has become second nature since her discovery of it. Initially focused on semi-realistic portraiture, her recent work incorporates elements of surrealism and mixed media.
In 2020, Fultz received multiple Gold Keys and two National Gold Medals from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. At 18, she traveled abroad, which led to an apprenticeship under an established artist in Italy, where she trained in traditional painting methods. She later completed a foundation year art program in Barcelona, where her practice expanded into experimental approaches. Though only at the beginning of her artistic career, she has gained international experience through group exhibitions in Detroit, Ohio, Barcelona, and Buenos Aires.
Alongside oil painting, her work engages mixed media, printmaking, sewing, stop-motion, and installation. After completing an industrial sewing course, secondhand textiles have become an essential part of her practice, where repurposing materials is treated as an art form.
